The wreck of the British Ship,
"Fairlight" on the Amakujima Islands which are claimed as a dependency of Japan. Court in their report dwelt in very high terms on the great kindness gratuitously rendered by the Islanders to the hundred and sixty-three survivors from the wreck, which they considered deserving of special acknowledgment, and it has doubtless occurred to Your Excellency, as to myself that similar kindness from ourselves when it is in our power to render it is perhaps the best return that we can offer for much humanity.
It came to my knowledge.
